Christina Bowles, D.V.M.
If you ask Dr. Christina Bowles how she spends her days, her reply is always the same: “I have the honor and pleasure of leading the best team in southwest Michigan at Shaver Road Animal Hospital!”
Dr. Bowles graduated from Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine (Boiler up!) in 2001. After four years of practice at a 24-hour care hospital, Dr. Bowles (like cereal bowls, not “bowels” like your colon!) joined the Shaver Road team as a staff veterinarian in 2005. The devotion of the Shaver Road team to a personalized approach toward pet care was a perfect fit with how she practices medicine. Her love for the clients and patients at the hospital grew, and in July of 2012, she embarked on a new adventure as the owner of the hospital as well. Dr. Bowles lives to nurture the bond between our clients and their pets. She combines her medical, behavioral and surgical expertise with a desire to truly listen to your concerns in order to improve life for both you and your furry family members.
When she’s not at Shaver Road, Dr. B is a busy “B” in the community as well! Mornings always start with a Scratch snuggle (her bottle-fed rescue kitty) and then a walk in the woods with the family’s American Bulldog mix, Tugger. After work, she might be off to serve as a board member for the Vicksburg Community School Foundation, speak at a local school or daycare, or run the high school intern program here at the hospital. Dr. Bowles and her husband, Chad, both love the water and the family spends as much time camping and boating as possible when the “Bowles boys” don’t keep them busy. With sons Jackson and Maguire competing in every sport imaginable, you’re more likely to catch Dr. B at a Vicksburg sporting event then relaxing at the lake! Go Bulldogs!

Jessica Kamm L.V.T.
Jessica Kamm was Shaver Road Animal Hospital’s first licensed veterinary technician! She graduated from MSU in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in Veterinary Technology. Jess worked at another small animal hospital locally until starting with Shaver Road in 2008. She actually worked with Dr. Bowles prior to SRAH, and followed her here because of who she is and how she practices medicine.
Jess loves being a technician because of the variety her days bring! There is a broad scope of tasks she gets to enjoy; laboratory work, performing dental prophylaxis, and anesthesiology are just a few! Her favorite “job,” however, is forming those bonds with our patients and their owners!
At home, Jess has quite the menagerie! Sharing the Kamm household is a very handsome cat named Bobber, a rowdy dog named Rowdy, a leopard gecko (Cricket), and a Kenyan Sand Boa (Philly CheeseSnake).
In her free time, Jess loves to cook ~ so much, in fact, that she has FIVE crockpots (she has yet to go over to the dark side of the Instapot, though)!! She loves spending time with her husband and their two teenage girls. They like to go antiquing, kayaking, and watching movies. The Mummy is currently the Kamm family favorite!
Audrea Bailey L.V.T.
Audrea Bailey, Licensed Veterinary Technician, joined the Shaver Road Animal Hospital team in February 2020. We are so excited to have her on board. She has dedicated much of her life to working with animals and is looking forward to continuing to follow her passion here at SRAH.
Audrea was born and raised in Indiana and started her long-standing career with animals in one of her local clinic’s kennel. After high school she continued on as a veterinary assistant and then an RVT all while going to Purdue University. She then explored the country for a while before deciding to settle down in Michigan.
When Audrea finds herself with free time she loves to be outside, reading, and baking. Nothing beats spending time with her two young boys; however, they sure keep her hopping. As for fur family, Audrea shares her home with a dog – Milo, two cats – Malcolm and River, and two guinea pigs – Layla and Lily.
Sally Browne, our Staff and Client Relations Manager, is Shaver Road Animal Hospital’s longest employed staff member, having started in 1995! If you have a question about Shaver Road, she is the go-to! Her wealth of knowledge is invaluable for all of us, staff and clients alike!
Sally, along with her husband Gary, share their home with one cat (Bean) and two dogs; an energetic pitbull named Wanda and an adorable terrier mix named Trixie. They also share their property with multitudes of wild creatures that have learned the Browne family loves ALL animals, which equates to food and safety in their quiet cul-de-sac wooded yard.
When Sally has free time, she loves reading, trying out new recipes in her amazingly stocked kitchen, crafting, and a good theatre show! She and her husband also enjoy a long-term weekly dog-training class with both Wanda and Trixie.
Emily French, our Office and Finance Manager here at Shaver Road Animal Hospital, has worked at the clinic since January 2003. She’s always had a passion for working with animals. Her first volunteer job was at an animal hospital in New York where she grew up, followed by her first “real” job at a horse stable in Minnesota. Finally settling in Michigan with her husband and two children, she found her place at SRAH and hasn’t looked back.
There are three cats (Kory, Ramekin, and Marie) that allow the French family to live with them (as long as the food bowl stays full!). A shepherd/rottweiler mix named Vader tries to keep the cats in line but really just sleeps on the couch. And finally, a bearded dragon and a salt-water fish tank round out Emily’s crew.
When you ask what Emily enjoys, she replies, “Star Wars, math, kayaking, Star Wars, gaming, rollerskating, Star Wars, cupcakes, music, Star Wars…”
Simone Heller has been a veterinary assistant at Shaver Road Animal Hospital since December 2013. If you’ve ever been told you can pay your bill in chocolate, chances are you’ve met Simone! Her love of animals began in Germany where she grew up. Her father was a German Shepherd Dog breeder and she’s never known life without one!
She met and married her husband while he was on military tour in Germany, and then came home with him to the USA where they started a family, having three children. Now their youngest is a freshman in high school and Simone doesn’t know where the time went! Her furry family members include a GSD (Zelda), and two Boston Terriers (Tucker and Cash).
When Simone has free time she enjoys reading, a good meal, spending time with friends, running and biking, and sports (especially soccer and basketball). You will definitely see her sporting her German jersey during the World Cup!
Christy Hite has been a veterinary assistant with Shaver Road Animal Hospital since June 2014. She is our resident boxer girl, with two of her own (JD and Darci Lynn), and one sassy chihuahua named Zuess. Both of her boxers are rescues, and JD enjoys coming to work with Christy as a SRAH play date dog! Spencer, the cat, rules the roost, however. She also has a Pacman frog and a ball python to round out her menagerie!
Christy and her long-time boyfriend live in their home in Milwood as empty-nesters. Grown children have moved out. However, Christy enjoys plenty of quality time with her grandson when she has time off! She also enjoys traveling to new places, reading, and any movie that might scare her socks off!
Rachel Smith has been a veterinary assistant with Shaver Road Animal Hospital since February 2016. You will often see her smiling face in and out of exam rooms, going over surgery notes with clients, or just snuggling a patient during a slow period!
She has three dogs at home; Dolly, Dude, and Rambo. Dolly, her Australian shepherd, also is ‘employed’ at SRAH as one of the resident play date dogs! She also has two quarter horses (Cody and Gator), and three very spoiled barn cats.
Rachel has been married to her husband, Sam, since 2016. They have a daughter, Josie, who keeps them very busy! Growing up, Rachel was in 4-H for 8 years, as well as FFA where she showed livestock and horses. Her love of animals started very early, and we have no doubt that passion will be passed on to her daughter!
Jessie Luke, one of our veterinary assistants, started in January 2020. She has a criminal justice background, but her profound love of animals has brought her to us, and we are very thankful to have her on the team!
She has three rescued fur babies of her own: a border collie/German Shepherd mix (Kyra), and another shepherd mix (Odin). Then there is the one and only Oliver, a male white and orange cat, who keeps the peace in the household when mom and dad aren’t home.
When Jessie isn’t cuddling our patients, she enjoys water skiing, spending time with her friends and family, and gardening. Now that Jessie and Matt are first-time homeowners she can really get that green thumb going!
If you have called Shaver Road Animal Hospital recently, you’ve probably talked to Kaylee; and you’re likely to find her smiling face greeting you when you come visit. Kaylee spends much of her time in the clinic as our receptionist, but we make sure she gets her share of cuddles with our
patients as a veterinary assistant, as well! Animals are her passion, and her cats can attest to her devotion! Naliah, Malakai, Elijah, and Ava round out her feline family, and you can certainly find them snuggling their humans during movie time! Kaylee is a licensed cosmetologist, and while this has become more of a hobby for her, she loves doing her friends and family’s hair in her free time.
Mary Mitchell started as an intern with Shaver Road Animal Hospital, and now holds a veterinary assistant position when she comes home from college for breaks! She is a freshman at Olivet College, majoring in biology, with a plan to attend veterinary school once her preliminaries are done. She currently participates with Olivet’s Pre-Veterinary Club.
Along with her love of animals, Mary has a passion for playing soccer! She’s been playing for as long as we can remember, and now plays for the women’s soccer team at Olivet. When Mary comes home from college, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and of course her Siamese cat (Lola).
SRAH welcomed Cassie to the team as a veterinary assistant in the fall of 2021! She has always loved animals, so was pretty excited to come on board and begin to learn new skills. If you ask Cassie, so far her favorite place to work in the hospital is in the kennel providing our boarding and hospitalized animals with love, comfort, and compassion.
Cassie lives in Portage with her parents, and is attending KVCC with a major in Biology. Her animal family includes their dog (Barrett), four cats (Dutch, Smudge, Ellie, and Baxter), lots of fish, and a flock of chickens (eight, to be exact!).
Work and school keep Cassie busy, but when she does find free time she can be found reading, writing, catching a concert, and getting out to exercise to clear her mind!
Cynthia joined the SRAH team in the fall of 2021 as a veterinary assistant. Retiring after 31 years of teaching middle and elementary school, she is excited to focus on another life-long passion: animals! Cynthia and her husband Kevin have been married for 34 years and met at WMU (Go Broncos!). They have two beautiful daughters (also WMU grads) who grew up showing quarter horses in 4-H and loved life on their farm. Cynthia and her family have many four-legged members inside and outside of the house. Inside, two dogs (Molly and Pokey) and Winnie the cat. Outdoors, there are two mini donkeys and two mini horses (Tula, Rosie, Star, and Sage). And then no farm is complete without a barn cat or two! Cynthia’s “mousers” are Frito and Tiger.
Cynthia loves music, football, and going to the movies. She enjoys spending time with all of her animals, inside and out; but most of all she enjoys her time with family and friends.
She is excited to start this new adventure at SRAH! She looks forward to meeting our clients soon.
